The Christmas Do, 10th December

I hope you didn’t think we would miss out on an opportunity for a little seasonal festivity!

When: Monday 10th December, 6:30 for 7:00
What: Bob Last and Chris Moisan, Taptu
Where: The Porterhouse, 16-18 Parliament Street
http://www.porterhousebrewco.com/templebar.html

We’re thrilled to be able to hear about mobile search from Taptu (http://taptu.com/ and http://taptu.com/blog/).

Taptu has been hot news in mobile this year, and the service has had rave reviews in such illustrious places as the Scoble Show, WAP Review, and Mobile2.0. Now they’re coming to a pub near you!

So… if you thought that the mobile version of the search game was wrapped up already, come and hear Bob and Chris dispel a few assumptions. Mobile’s a little different, right?

They’re also providing the sponsorship, so there will be plenty of food, drink, and Christmas cheer to go around. Bring a friend :-)

As usual, we need to know numbers. Please either register at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/momodublin/surveys?id=2616864 or mail me off list (especially if you are bringing a guest).

See you there!

Demo Night - 24th September 2007

We can confirm the details for this month’s meeting!

Venue: upstairs at The Hairy Lemon
Map: http://tinyurl.com/23e4v8
Date: 24th September 2007
Time: 6:30 for 7pm

Our very kind sponsors for the night are Blacknight Solutions, who specialise in serving the hosting, domain registration and co-location needs of businesses, both large and small. The company has a philosophy of providing innovative high quality technical solutions to business and are actively involved in the international ecommerce community.

Now Amy claims she reserved The Hairy Lemon “against her better judgement” :-) but it’s a relaxed, comfortable pub, and most importantly has a big plasma screen.

Why? Because it’s demo night, and it’s a chance for companies to show what they’re capable of in the mobile world. We’ll be hearing from:

  • Mobile Aware
…who is the world’s leading provider of Mobile Service Infrastructure, a strategic approach for creating and managing mobile data solutions. Rotan Hanrahan will be showing a number of live mobile services powered today by Mobile Aware’s technology - including bookmakers, travel and banking sites.
  • Sentry Wireless
…who enable mobile operators and MVNOs to offer a patented control service that allows their customers to easily monitor and regulate mobile phone usage. Ciaran Bradley will demonstrate this Dublin company’s cool SIM-based technology and how it can increase customer retention and drive increased ARPU.
  • Mobile Complete
…whose Direct-To-Device and Virtual-Device technologies address the entire mobile product and consumer purchasing lifecycle, from product inception to development & testing to post-launch QoS monitoring to product sales, marketing and support. Keith Cook will be demonstrating this uniquely cool technology in the flesh.

Food, beer, and convivial socialisation are all part of the event - and so there’s limited space. We kindly ask you to register. (And feel free to spread the word!)

We look forward to seeing you there.

18th June: the future of the mobile web… and tapas

I’m pleased to confirm the final details for the Mobile Monday Dublin event next week: “This house believes the Mobile Web is inevitable. But what will it look like?”

We have three esteemed panellists, representing different facets of our mobile industry:

And of course we will be encouraging lively discussion and debate amongst all present.

The venue for the evening is Market Bar on Fade Street (http://www.marketbar.ie/), and oh, there’s tapas! I’d like to thank in advance the sponsors for the evening, ChangingWorlds, for their warm hospitality.

We’ll start at 6.30pm, and given the panel format (and the fact that there’ll be lots to talk about), we need to be fairly prompt.

Numbers are potentially limited by the venue, so you do please need to indicate attendance using the group poll at:
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/momodublin/surveys?id=2521515

Of course, feel free to forward on and spread the word. Space permitting, the more the merrier :-)

That’s it I think. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Mobile Monday Dublin - in June

Hello all,

We carelessly skipped Mobile Monday in May, but we will be back in business in June. The next meeting is now
confirmed for Monday June 18th.

We’re going for a slightly more structured session (but not, I should add, at the expense of free wine or beer). The topic for the evening will be…

“This house believes the Mobile Web is inevitable. But what will it look like?”

We all believe (I assume) that the next evolution of the web is its becoming become mobile. In ten year’s time, I think we’ll laugh that we ever doubted it.

But what will it look like? Will mobile-operator portals straddle the ecosystem? Will the kings of today’s web seamlessly make the transition? Or will new portals, services, and leaders come through to dominate this new medium? Is it even a new medium at all?

So plenty of future-gazing stuff… and we’ll have a number of panellists from various corners of the industry present to cast their predictions and stimulate healthy discussion. We’ll confirm location and speaker line-up in the next week or two.

(Oh, and if anyone’s company would like to sponsor, don’t hesitate to let me know)

Thanks & we hope to see you there.

James

Hope you enjoyed…

…last night’s Mobile Monday.

Thanks for coming - I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

A few photos are here.

Rotan and Ronan won prizes for their Siemens S4 and Palm Pilot respectively.

Next we need to figure out when and where the next event is going to be… and if anyone would like to volunteer as sponsors. Any volunteers, please let me know :-)

See you all again soon!

Mobile Monday Dublin is tonight!

We’re starting at 6:30 tonight at the Library Bar. All the details are at http://www.momodublin.com/?p=7

Anyone’s welcome - although it probably helps if they know something about mobile! If you want to forward-on these details, please go ahead.

Five very important points:

 1) Please let us know you’re coming, so that the food is commensurate with hunger. You do that by either signing up at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/momodublin/surveys?id=2445808 - OR - mailing me off-list. Or, what the hell: just turn up.

 2) It’s legacy-phone night! Bring the oldest, biggest, most analogue thing you can find. Don’t turn your phones on silent. The winner will enjoy the envy of their peers and a mystery prize.

 3) We think name tags would be a bit pompous for this informal event. So bring plenty of business cards.

 4) If you want to blog about the event or upload photos / videos / whatever, please tag your content “momodub”

 5) Er, did I mention the free food & drink?

See you all tonight!

MoMoDublin is nearly here… 02/04/07

Following our announcement that there would be an event in April we had a great response in terms of people joining the mailing list. So we know we’re on to something!

This is a reminder that the event is only just over a week away, and to confirm the details.

It’s Monday 2nd April, and we’re opening the doors at 6.30pm, with food hopefully arriving at about 7.00pm. It’s at the Library Bar in Exchequer Street.

I’d love to confirm numbers so that there’s enough sustainance for everyone. If you’re planning on attending, please indicate so on the group site.

(And if you have any friends or colleagues who would like to come, please spread the word!)

Unlike the “standard” MoMo template of speakers and panels, this inaugural evening will be basically a networking event. Please feel relaxed and free to talk and discuss mobility with your peers in a very hospitable environment.

We’ll see how it goes :-) I’d be interested in your feedback (now, at the event, or on the list) as to whether we try to have more structured sessions in the future. I’d love this to be a community-driven event, so your feedback is a vital part of the mix.

I’m looking forward to meeting you all there!
